Program Profiles

Admission Requirements

Eligibility Criteria: A bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a field of study relevant to Electrical Power Engineering program from a public University or any other accredited institution of higher learning. A cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.75 for male applicants, CGPA of 2.5 for female applicants and CGPA of 2.00 for private applicants like from industries, TVET college.

Entrance Examination: The applicant must satisfactorily pass entrance examination (i.e. score at least 50%). However, a score above 50% does not automatically guarantee enrollment which could be based the intake capacity of the department. The entrance examination is administered by the department of electrical & computer engineering.

Letter of Sponsorship: The applicant must provide evidence of financial support to pursue his or her postgraduate studies at UOG. Applicants without sponsorship should pay the appropriate postgraduate fee to UOG. Masters sponsorship for a candidate with a second degree through government is strictly prohibited. However, if the candidate is supported by the sponsoring institution, she/he would be eligible for such enrollment.

Letter of recommendation: The applicant must provide two letters of recommendation from his/her previous instructors/supervisors who are familiar with his/her academic performance.

Age of the candidate: A government sponsored masters candidate should not be above 40 years old.

Documents & Transcript Requirements: All applicants are required to bring their original bachelor degree certificate or official testimonial for graduation.

Provisional Admissions:  Student admitted in this program who have specialization other than power engineering stream, will be required to take the undergraduate courses like electrical power system, energy conversion, power electronics & drives, hydro power engineering, power system protection & operation and power system planning.

A student given provisional admission has to complete the prescribed courses before formally accepted as a regular graduate student. The performance of the student in the prescribed undergraduate courses will not be considered for SGPA and /or CGPA calculation but will appear on the transcript.

The duration of student’s stay in the university as a provisionally admitted student shall be determined by the Academic Unit Council; concerned, but shall not exceed one academic year.

A provisionally admitted student who has satisfactorily completed the prescribed undergraduate courses shall be granted regular graduate student status.

Enrollment and Registration: Application is normally processed before the beginning of each semester. Every student must register at the beginning of each semester in order to keep enrollment active. A student who fails to maintain continuous registration without officially withdrawing from the program, shall be considered to have dropped out. If such student wishes to resume studies, the student must apply readmission.
